Fusion Solution

logo0202

The mixed-signal capabilities of Fusion allow for a single-chip solution for motor control applications. This Motor Control solution, shown in the figure below, demonstrates the unique advantages of Fusion and its flexibility in controlling varied types of motors on a single platform. The daughter board is designed to work along side the Fusion Starter Kit. It uses the on-board PLL and clock generator of Fusion to target a wide range of motor frequencies. The internal real-time counter (RTC) logs applications and on-board nonvolatile memory (NVM) stores configuration data. The internal analog to digital converter (ADC), located on the Fusion device, performs the Analog control (speed control).

This solution includes the board and a reference deisgn so that you can run a stepper motor or a Brushless DC Motor (BLDC). The software GUI shown below will help you control the stepper motor or the BLDC motor in its different modes.

The figure below shows the block diagram for the motor control IP. The average phase voltage is modulated using a PWM core to control the speed of the motor. A dedicated finite state machine is designed to commutate the motor in both Sensored and Sensorless modes. Hardware controls are provided through switches on the board. A USB serial interface chip is provided on-board that externally interfaces with the USB port through an application software. The software controls the motor parameters through a graphical user interface running on the PC.
